"In 2015, I decided to take my writing in a new direction, come out of the closet spiritually..."
In addition to the following, I have three non-fiction books for teens coming out in 2019 with Reference Point Press. My children’s writing is now represented by the wonderful Jenna Pocius of Red Fox Literary.
I Spy a Lighthouse (Upcoming)
Another long-term dream is about to come true. I'm in the process of writing and illustrating my first picture book for a new Canadian publisher. Couldn't be more excited!
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Spiritual Leaders, Top Picks (Visionary Insight Press, 2017)
I was delighted to be invited by publisher Lisa Hardwick to submit a chapter to this latest anthology by Visionary Insight Press.
"My Something Better" is the story of how the Universe connected the seemingly unrelated dots of my tired, outworn life and transported me smack dab in the middle of my dream life - in magical ways I couldn't have imagined.
And in ways that started long before I even had the dreams.
Funny how that happens.
When Heaven Touches Earth: A Little Book of Miracles, Marvels & Wonders (Hierophant Publishing, 2016)
When I heard Hierophant Publishing was looking for stories about connections to the "other side", I knew I had to submit the story about the message I got from my father (who transitioned in 2007) letting me know he was still with me.
When he passed, I was initially devastated. But from the beginning, I've had so many messages and signs that he's still around, that when my mother passed recently, I had no reason to believe she'd gone anywhere, either. I could fill a book with the signs I've had from her and know she's only a thought away.
I'm thrilled to be part of this anthology - not only to be a Hierophant author - a publisher I greatly admire, but to be part of a book with James Van Praagh, an author I've read for years.
The Empowerment Manual (Visionary Insight Press, 2015)
Recently, I decided to take my writing in a new direction, come out of the closet spiritually, so to speak. I had a desire to write about subjects close to my heart, subjects I knew intimately, deeply, which up until then, I'd only spoken about with like-minded seekers. Subjects like following one’s bliss—a decision that catapulted me into living a more authentic and joyful life.
So this is yet another jump in creating my best life and I’m honoured to be part of this upcoming anthology, The Empowerment Manual, my first published writing in the personal development field.
Sable Island: The Wandering Sandbar (Nimbus, 2011)
Traveling to Sable Island, a windswept isle in the North Atlantic, was a childhood dream. I also had a dream to write a children’s book. And in 2009, those two dreams collided when I got a chance to spend a week in this magical place inhabited by hundreds of wild horses and tens of thousands of seals.
And when the magic settled, Sable Island: The Wandering Sandbar, a non-fiction book aimed at seven to nine year-olds, was released to the world. I was thrilled when Nimbus chose one of my photos for the book's cover, and over the moon when it not only received some great reviews, but was also shortlisted for several prestigious Canadian children’s choice book awards.
Breaking the Word Barrier: Stories of Adults Learning to Read (Goose Lane Editions, 2009)
Books were plentiful in my home growing up, despite not having much money. For my mother, born during the Depression, books opened her eyes to a world beyond the extreme poverty she saw around her. My mother inspired her love of reading in me and I spent many years working with children with low literacy skills, helping to instill the magic of words and stories in each of them.
Breaking the Word Barrier: Stories of Adults Learning to Read was a labour of love between Laubach Literacy, the Writers Federation of New Brunswick and the writers who penned the stories of those brave enough to share their struggles with the written word. BWB was distributed free of charge to various literacy organizations.
